But if enough people would prefer to stick with Port Saiid, I could start the cleanup process this weekend. Stay here or move back to the old board? (Total Votes: 21) - Closed Stay here (10 / 47.6%) Go back to Port Saiid (11 / 52.4%)

Posts: 43 12/18/10 13:58:30	Here's how I re-sized my avatar: Go to your avatar in your albums (click on "images" on the top tool bar) and click on your profile pictures album. Then click on "edit album" and under the images you should see options to resize or crop the image. I'm fine with staying at this board. The shorter URL is also a plus.

Posts: 7 12/20/10 23:50:50	I haven't voted yet because I've been trying hard to figure out a way to word this without dragging old forum politics here, which I understand is the main reason this board was created. However, I can see where Pero has a point... but I still feel there's a big difference between leaving the Game Pond to go to Port Saiid and leaving Port Saiid to go here. The Game Pond's time really was over. There was just no way to continue having one forum full of people who wanted to run the board one way, and another forum full of people who wanted to run it our way, and then have us all go on pretending we liked each other and nothing bad was happening in-between all the wars. But with Port Saiid... I mean, other than a person or two who seems to have some unresolved issues, there's nothing like that. Pretty much no reason to hate the place as far as I can see, and you know me, I hate everything. If FO really moved here because she wants a shorter and more correct URL, then fine. But I don't like the idea of leaving Port Saiid under the pretense that there was something drastically wrong with it besides the URL.

Posts: 226 12/21/10 06:47:39	The main problem with Port Saiid is that we really, really should have had a "Grump Dump" forum from the start. People have always seemed resistant to such a forum because they always say that it will lead to fighting and breakups, but I have seen very little evidence that such forums destroy communities. Many other boards I go to or have gone to have them. And the lack of such a forum is no guarantee fights won't occur. But I was getting complaints about irrelevant replies to serious, thoughtful discussions, and I don't know what to tell those people when I look at where the topics are, and they are posted in the Nonsense Forum! I went down the front page of that forum the other day and there were several topics, just on Page 1 alone, that made me wonder, "Why the hell is this in a Nonsense forum??" Now, normally, I don't consider myself a hard-ass for staying on topic. I have a very lax view on moderating the forums. But as has been proven time and time again, if you're too lax, eventually it causes problems. Note: I'm not saying that being a Nonsense forum excused the behavior of certain users who eventually ended up banned or run out just shy of being banned. Just because it's a nonsense forum, that doesn't mean trolling is allowed or that you can stage a hostile forum takeover of it. But generally speaking, if you're starting serious topics about religion, science, math, evolution, politics, and other such subjects and expecting cerebral replies in there, then I think everyone who wants to visit a nonsense forum just to have fun and see funny posts has more of a right to be angry than you do. But again, this is really more my fault than anybody else's for simply not putting my foot down and saying, "That's it. We need a Grump Dump, whether everyone likes it or not."

I'm not voting because I don't want to sway the results). I'm going to announce this topic on my front page because it's really important that everyone vote in this if you care at all what board we stay at. Because at some point, I'm going to close the poll and whatever is ahead is what will be decided. I haven't decided what I'll do in case of a tie at closing time... I also need to decided on the closing time before I put up the front page announcement.

Posts: 226 12/24/10 17:29:22	Also, just thought I'd toss this out there, but if we end up staying at the board you didn't vote for, and you liked the design of the board you voted for better, don't let it get you too down. Yuku allows you to save skins now, so it's easy to make one, import it, and then switch to it. That's how I was able to get Port Saiid to look like it did in the old days again. The only thing I had to change were a few graphics, but the old "Aliens" skin was still in there, which was only slightly modified from the "Aidyn Chronicles" skin. So, I might just end up changing the design every few months or so to keep things fresh. (I think it's also possible to allow individual users to choose a design so that the board will always appear that way to them, but I'll have to look into that more...)
